Full rebuild and restoration of Class 46 loco

  • arrow-right-orange-32 Pioneer Diesels recently completed a 2 year project to restore loco 46010 at the GCRN Ruddington depot near Nottingham. The loco was taken over by D05 Preservation Ltd in a semi derelict state, and Pioneer Diesels were contracted to carry out all the necessary restoration work. This included:
  • Rebuild of both cabs with newly fabricated framework and plating
  • Reskinning most of the bodysides after repairing and corrosion treatment of framework
  • Fully rewiring both cabs and overhaul cab fittings
  • Replacing old cab insulation and panelling with higher spec fireproof materials
  • Overhaul of auxiliary machines (compressor, blower motors, water pump)
  • Overhaul and remanufacture main air reservoirs
  • Fault finding and repair of defective electrical control and braking equipment
  • Full respray with high performance 2-pack paint system for corrosion and fade resistance
