Motoring Along

The arrival of milder temperatures meant that it was time to crack open the paint tins at Barrow Hill. Over the last few weeks various components have been cleaned and restored, and formed a disorderly queue for the paint team. This included two cylinder heads, air compressor and pipework, instrument box, and mesh grilles for the boiler room resistor frames. The inside of the compressor motor field frame was coated with anti-tracking red and the outside undercoated. The overhauled armature has returned from Bowers and should be re-united with the field frame in the next couple of weeks.

During the visit to Bowers, progress with the generator for 24081 was also examined, as the main armature has been rebanded and will soon be assembled back into the field frame.
